Girls’ getaway to Palma de Mallorca

¡Hola!

Let me start off by saying… SUMMER is definately here and I hope you are summer-ready like me!

Permíteme comenzar diciendo que… ¡El VERANO ya está definitivamente aquí y espero que estés listo como yo!

Last long weekend, I went with two girlfriends from the Netherlands to Palma de Mallorca. It was our first visit to this Balearic Island and we definitely made the best of it! We got to see some amazing places and the weather has been good to us.

El anterior puente, fui con dos amigas de holanda a Palma de Mallorca. Era para todas nuestra primera visita a esta isla de las Baleares y sin duda hemos disfrutado a tope! Hemos conseguido ver unos lugares muy bellos y el buen tiempo nos ha acompañado.

Magaluf

Since we wanted to stay near a beach and within budget, we booked our stay at the Hotel Sol Barbados in Magaluf. To be honest we weren’t too keen on staying in this area, because it’s a place were youngsters would come to party hard and some indulged in their shameless acts. Definitely not our scene! On a positive note, the hotel itself was comfortable and the staff were nice. We had this amazing sea view and I woke up every morning to appreciate the sunrise.

Como queríamos estar cerca de la playa y dentro del presupuesto, reservamos nuestra estancia en el Hotel Sol Barbados en Magaluf. Para ser honesta, no estábamos demasiado entusiasmadas en alojarnos en esta zona, ya que es el lugar donde los jóvenes vienen a disfrutar sin limites y algunos cometen actos vergonzosos. ¡Definitivamente no es nuestro lugar! En el lado positivo, el hotel era cómodo y el personal era agradable. Tuvimos unas vistas al mar que eran impresionantes y me despertaba cada mañana para disfrutar del amanecer.

The city centre of Palma de Mallorca

To explore the city and the old town of Palma we decided to do a bike tour, and within three hours we discovered the hidden charms of this city. The best part was that we got to see the Palma Cathedral from every possible angle.

Para explorar la ciudad y el casco viejo de Palma, decidimos hacer un tour en bicicleta, que duró tres horas y pudimos descubrir los encantos ocultos de la ciudad. La mejor parte fue que llegamos a ver la Catedral de Palma desde todos los ángulos posibles.

Katmandu Park

As an explorer I barely opt to visit amusement parks. As my beautiful friends where part of this journey, they desperately wanted to visit Katmandu Park just to shoot some zombies or what-nots. So I didn’t have a choice. In the end I was reliving my childhood memories and I’ve managed to beat them at the laser-shooting zombie game. Hahaha… Would I do it again? Probably not, but I am glad I went. It was without a doubt a lot of fun and tons of laughter. 🙂

Katmandu Park

Como soy una exploradora apenas opto por visitar los parques de atracciones. Como mis amigas guapas formaban parte de este viaje y querían desesperadamente visitar Katmandu Park solo para disparar algunos zombies u otras cosas. Así que no tuve otra opción. Al final estaba reviviendo mis recuerdos de infancia y he conseguido ganarles al juego de zombies con pistolas láser. Jajaja… ¿Lo haría otra vez? Probablemente no, pero estoy contenta de haber ido. Fue sin duda un montón de diversión y nos reímos mucho. 🙂

Port d’Andratx

Since we hired a car for one day (I was the lucky driver by the way), we decided to visit the northwestern part of the island. Our first stop was Port d’Andratx, which is a very tiny fishermen’s port with three coves.

Puerto de Andrach

Ya que alquilamos un coche para un día (yo era la afortunada conductora), decidimos visitar la parte noroeste de la isla. Nuestra primera parada era el Puerto de Andrach / Port d’Andratx, que es un pequeño puerto de pescadores con tres calas.

Serra Tramontana

During our car journey we admired the Serra de Tramuntana, which is range of mountains starting from the southwestern part of the island and stretches out until the northwest.

Along the way we stopped to take some pictures at Torre de Verger and the Cala Banyalbufar.

Sierra Tramontana

Durante nuestro viaje en coche hemos admirado la sierra de Tramontana, que es la zona de montañas desde la parte suroeste de la isla y se extiende hasta el noroeste.

Por el camino paramos para tomar algunas fotos como por ejemplo en la Torre de Verger y la Cala Banyalbufar.

Valldemossa

We’ve been wanting to visit Valldemossa before our visit, and we got to have a relaxing lunch (after a long drive). After our lunch we explored this charming village. Especially the houses (some from the 14th century) were well-preserved with floral decor on the walls, which I really like.

Frederic Chopin expressed once during his stay at the Royal Carthusian Monastery of Valldemossa (1838):

¨I shall live in a wonderful cloister in the most beautiful part of the world…¨

Valldemossa

Desde que organizamos el viaje queríamos visitar Valldemossa, tras un largo trayecto en coche buscamos un restaurante para comer en este sitio tan bonito. Después de nuestro almuerzo hemos explorado este encantador pueblo. Especialmente las casas (algunas del siglo XIV) han sido bien preservadas y tienen decoraciones florales en las paredes, que me encanta.

Frederic Chopin dijo una vez durante su estancia en la Real Cartuja de Valldemossa (1838):

«Habitaré un maravilloso claustro en el más hermoso lugar del mundo…»

Port Sollèr

To finalize our trip, Port Sollèr was our last pitstop before returning the car. Here we caught a glimpse of the sunset and even saw a vintage train!

Para finalizar nuestro día en coche, Puerto Sollèr fue nuestra última visita antes de devolver el coche. Aquí hemos podido ver la puesta del sol e incluso vimos un tren vintage!

We had a stupendous time and wished we stayed longer to see more of Mallorca, since the island itself is bigger than it looks. If you’re ever thinking of visiting Palma de Mallorca, I recommend that you hire a car to see its nature, beaches, coves and villages.

Pasamos un tiempo estupendo y deseábamos quedarnos aún más días para ver más de Mallorca como la isla es mucho más grande de lo que parece. Si estás pensando en visitar Palma de Mallorca, te recomiendo alquilar un coche para ver la naturaleza, las playas, calas y los pueblos.
